SAILING UPDATES
Changes to Sailing Instructions
Sailors, please note there have been a number of changes to the Sailing Instructions for the 2025-26 season. Some of the key changes in the Sailing Instructions include:
1. Division 4 and 5 have combined for the season, and will be sailing as division 4.
2. Some courses have changed, so please look at the Sailing Instructions for updated courses for your division.
3. The inner course (marks 1 and 3) may be pink or yellow.
4. The reach angle from marks 1 to 3 is approximately 10 degrees higher.
5. Division 6 will sail back-to-back races on race days whenever possible, finishing through the start line (not the tower).
All sailors should be familiar with the club’s Sailing Instructions and Notice of Race, which are now available for download from the SYC website.
Race Management Team
Race Officers, Assistant Race Officers and Radio Operators are encouraged to join the Race Management WhatsApp group for the latest in rostering and news. The November tower roster needs to be filled in the coming weeks. Once you know your availability please fill in the roster or send me a message with your availability.

Please note, if you do not nominate by the Melbourne Cup weekend and positions remain vacant then the Rear Commodore will be nominating people off the membership list. Appreciate your action on this. No crews on the Rescue boat may mean no sailing. Nigel.
ARE YOUR YACHT DETAILS CURRENT?
Sailors it is time to check the details of your boat in your Rev Sport profile. We have noticed that some sailors have not deleted boats which have been sold or entered new boats.
In order to put your boat in the yard you will need to have correct details on your Rev Sportprofile.
Instructions to access your profile on Rev Sport are here

TRACTOR DRIVERS NEEDED!! (TRAINING AVAILABLE)
We are currently in need of Tractor Drivers to launch Sea Rescue boats this season.
There are many sailing activities during the coming season that require help.
Such as:
- Swish on Friday afternoons.
- Sail training on Saturday mornings.
- Racing on Saturday afternoons.
- Christmas Holiday period sailing.
All of these activities require a Tractor to launch and retrieve our SA1, SA2, SA4 and SA11 rescue boats.
If you feel you can help us out, we can train you and add you to our WhatsApp group so that we can organise our roster.
Please contact Grahame Tiplady on 0409 802 921 or tractor@somersyachtclub.com.aufor more information.
WEBSITE REFRESH
Some minor changes to the menu and buttons on the SYC website are currently being made.
You'll find a couple of new buttons on the Menu that are being developed including Social and Volunteering.
The roster for the patrol boats and tower are now under Sailing>Racing and also under Volunteering.
Further tweaks to come. Should you have any queries, suggestions or feedback please email me through webmaster@somersyachtclub.com.au
