Training and Coaching

This season has now come to an end. Next season's courses are not set yet.

These courses are not for beginners but for sailors who already can control their boat competently.

These sessions are aimed at building on your boat handling skills, to better understand tacking and gybing, its balance and how to make the boat move faster. You will also learn trapezing skills if appropriate for your class of boat, spinnaker work and teamwork if on a 2-person boat. You will need your own boat in good working order or book a club boat for the session.

We learn so much from each other, so don't be shy to ask questions of other sailors in the yard, on the deck or at the bar.

Junior Fleet Training

This is training for all division 6 boats (Open Skiff, Hawk, Minnow and Optimists), Juniors must have their own boat or hire a club boat.

Junior Fleet training is a club-based junior sailing activity program for kids who have completed the Better Sailing/Start Racing Program or an equivalent junior learn-to-sail program. The Junior fleet sailors will develop their boat handling and racing skills and learn basic racing rules in a fun and supportive learning environment. It uses a relaxed teaching structure to further develop each sailor's independence and sailing knowledge with a fun, game-based and social approach.

8 morning sessions are running on Saturdays from 25th October to 13th December.
Sailors are encouraged to join the afternoon racing. Once a month, there is a Junior Fleet training Day (as marked on the calendar) where a powerboat will help coach juniors around the race course.

Cost per junior $150

Monohull coaching - This course is designed for participants who wish to continue developing their racing skills in dinghies and want to learn more about tuning their boat and racing strategy and tactics. If you have trapezing and a spinnaker we can teach this also. You can use your boat or book a club boat.

Catamaran coaching - This course aims to build on your catamaran handling skills, to understand the tacking and gybing of the catamaran, its balance and how to make the boat handle and move fast. You will also learn trapezing skills and teamwork if on a 2-person boat. You will need your catamaran in good working order for this course.
